Judge Barrett Potter house, Portland, ca. 1940

Description

It was in the parlor of the Potter home in Portland that Henry Wadsworth Longfellow wed his first wife, Mary Potter, in 1831.

The couple was married only four years when Mary died of complications arising from a miscarriage while the Longfellows were touring in Europe.
