Description
Ashland has long been a logging and milling center. The wilderness areas in the region have also drawn tourists who enjoy hunting and fishing. Hunting lodges in northern Quebec, in the Adirondacks, and remote areas of Maine became popular retreats for wealthy Americans in the late nineteenth century. The exact location of the camp depicted on this postcard is not known.
The postcard bears no date; the approximate date given here is based on other items created for Theara Hilton of Portland and appearing on the Maine Memory Network. The card was printed by the Albertype Company of Brooklyn, New York, which was active in the 1910s and 1920s.
