Description
Vegetarianism was in vogue nationally in 1970, when a reissue of the book Living the Good Life by internationally-known vegetarians and Maine residents Scott Nearing and Helen Nearing became a bestseller. Scott Nearing trained as an economist and led many social justice causes over his 100 years of life, including environmental and vegetarian movements.
The Nearings attracted new vegetarians to Maine, as people flocked to Harborside to study at the Good Life Center.
