Description
Jeremy Frey (Passamaquoddy) specializes in ash and sweetgrass basket artwork.
Rottweiler puts a spin on the typical traditional Wabanaki urchin design, with Frey adding signature style elements including fine weaving of thread-like ash weavers—some as small as one thirty-second of an inch, braided ash woven into the baskets, and ring finials on the basket lid, a technique he perfected with ash after learning the Indigenous Hawaiian technique of weaving with lauhala.
Frey named this basket Rottweiler, referencing the black and brown coloring of the dog breed.
