Description
Architecture commission for an unknown client at High Street in Portland, ME, 1904–1946. The commission is associated with John Calvin Stevens and John Howard Stevens Architects. This item is part of the Stevens Architects drawings and records collection.
The Williston Church is located at 32 Thomas Street in Portland. The Williston Congregational Church was organized in 1873 as a derivative from the State Street Church. In 1877, the construction of the Williston Church began.
In 1904, architect John Calvin Stevens designed the church's parish house. In February of 1931 a fire broke out in the church. The fire damages were covered by insurance, and the church was subsequently refurbished by November of the same year. The present day organ inside Williston is borrowed from the Williston Chapel on Danforth Street.
