Hannaford Bros. was started in 1883 by brothers Arthur and Howard Hannaford, who opened a wholesale store in Portland, Maine, to sell fruit and vegetables from their father's farm. In 1902, brothers Howard, Edward and Philip established Hannford Bros. Co.
