Description

Architecture commission for W. W. Thomas and Mary Cate Thomas at 120 West St. in Portland, ME, 1915–1927. The commission is associated with Frederick A. Tompson, and Frederick A. Tompson, Architect. This item is part of the Maine Medical Center collection.

The house was given to Mary Cate Thomas (1874-1960) by her father upon her marriage in 1909. She and her husband, William Widgery Thomas, a bank president, had seven children. The family gave the house to Maine Medical Center soon after Mary Cate Thomas died. The hospital used the house as a dorm for medical residents. The home is now, once again, in private ownership.
