Description
Born in Apice, Italy, Pasquale Castellucci (1889-1972) immigrated to the U.S. in 1904 at the age of sixteen and became a citizen in 1910. When he married Maria Vacchiano in Portland in 1916, he listed his occupation as “barber.”
The Castellucci family lived at 2 Middle Street in Portland, where Pasquale also operated a barber shop. In the 1960s, he moved the shop to Congress Street, and by 1963, the date of this photo, Castellucci’s Arcade Barber Shop operated out of 477 Congress Street. Specializing in children's haircuts, the birds in the barber shop likely acted as a distraction for the young customers.
