Description
This postcard depicts Congress Street in Portland, looking toward Monument Square. The Morton Block and Chapman Bank buildings are visible on the left side of the image, along with trolley tracks and a bustling downtown scene.
In 1927, Day's Jewelers purchased the former Morton Block and, in 1949, undertook a major renovation. In the 1990s, the Maine Historical Society purchased the former Day's Jewelry building and renovated the space into museum galleries and administrative offices.
