Description
A pair of calico sleeves, featuring pink and blue flowers with brown stems on a white or cream background, were taken from a dress worn by Dorothy Chambers circa 1798.
Goods like calico fabric, gunpowder, and pewterware were commonly traded by merchants involved in the slave trade. One example is the story of British sailor Thomas Bird, who served on the ship Mary, and transported captives from New Guinea and traded these goods.
