Description

Architect Gridley J.F. Bryant prepared this architectural design for the Maine State Prison in Thomaston on March 27, 1858, under the direction of Commissioner James G. Blaine and Governor Lot M. Morrill. This redesign was commissioned following a fire that destroyed several buildings and accommodated a growing prison population. The project was authorized under the “Resolve Providing for an Investigation into the Affairs of the State Prison."
