Description
This lantern slide is labeled "Gerards Camps at Big Spencer Pond." It probably is Spencer Lake Camps in Gerard in Somerset County.
A 1910 advertisement for "Spencer Lake Camps" in Gerard called the area "completely unspoiled" and "wonderful fishing and Game country." J. P. Morgan had a log camp on the same beach, to the right of the camps pictured.
The Gerard Post Office was in one of the camps in this cluster.
Gerard is now known as Hobbstown (T4R6 BKP WKR).
