Description
The Bangor standpipe was erected at the top of Thomas Hill in 1897. It was designed to provide sufficient water supply and pressure for firefighting. The tower stands 110 feet from the base; it is 85 feet in a diameter. It includes a promenade deck. The structure has been white through much of its history, but, as a result of the Second World, it was momentarily painted green to provide camouflage. The standpipe is now a National Historic Landmark.
A correspondent signing "Izzy" mailed the card to Miss Helen Daigle of Fort Kent from Bangor on April 28, 1940.
