Description

Construction on Bangor's waterworks began in 1875 to supply the city's new municipal public water system. The system took advantage of the dropping elevation at Treat's Falls; the flow of water-powered turbines that provided Bangor with electricity. The water destined for consumption in Bangor was not treated until the twentieth century. In recent years, the waterworks buildings, which had been vacated, have been renovated and repurposed as low-income housing.

A salmon-angling club was organized on the Brewer side of the river in 1887. The original clubhouse was destroyed by fire. The current building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The card bears a postmark of Bangor, April 28, 1940. A correspondent signing "Izzy" mailed it to Messrs. Ludger and Louis Daigle of Fort Kent.
