Description
The photo shows Addie Elmira Kaler and her brother, Harry Kaler. They were first cousins of James Otis Kaler, Maine author of children's books at the turn of the last century.
Their father, John Marion Kaler, was proprietor of the Southgate Inn (now the Black Point Inn) at Prout's Neck in Scarborough.
Harry died in the Spanish flu epidemic of 1918. In 1929 Addie married Edward Griswold Vaill, prominent Portland attorney. Until her death she resided in the house in Scarborough that is now the Kaler-Vaill retirement home for women.
