Description
Dated December 1, 1896, an invoice details costs related to the Cape Elizabeth Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument Association.
It includes two teams for one day of grading, $11.11; and 115 loads of gravel, $57.50. The bill was paid June 14, 1897.
The monument is at the corner of Mitchell and Cottage Roads, South Portland.
The monument association was organized on September 30, 1891 and was modeled after the Portland Soldiers and Sailors Monument Association. In 1895 First Congregational Church, also known as the Old North Church, donated land for the monument.
