Description
The William Fogg Library was opened in 1907 as the first free public library in Eliot. Built with funds and land donated by Dr. John S.H. Fogg in his will, the library contained both the collections of Dr. Fogg and the Eliot Library Association, the oldest friends of the library group in Maine. The library was named in honor of Dr. Foggs father William Fogg, a noted genealogist, state representative, and the first postmaster of Eliot.This photo shows the library decorated for the Eliot Centennial celebration which took place in 1910.
