Description
The town of Eliot celebrated its Centennial as a town in 1910 with a weeklong series of festivities. The events included concerts, speeches, and a parade. The First Congregational Church of Eliot served as the grandstand for the parade, which included the Marines, The Marching Band of Portsmouth, and floats from various town organizations. This float recreates a kitchen scene from the year of EliotÂ’s incorporation 1810. An interest in the early history of the area had been growing in Eliot at the time with the founding of the Eliot Historical Society and the publication of the Old Eliot Magazine, which presented original source material and articles on early colonial life in seacoast area.
