Description
Built between 1866 and 1871, the District Seven School served the students of the Pleasant Street area of Eliot. In 1910, the year this photo was taken, there were eight school districts in Eliot. Each district had its own one or two room school serving the first eight grades while a newly constructed centralized high school provided grades nine through twelve. By 1926 overcrowding and a growing movement to consolidate the towns many primary schools prompted the closing of the Number Seven School house. The building then served as a storage barn until it was remodeled and converted into a house in 1934.
