District Six School, Eliot, 1908

Description

In 1908, there were eight separate school districts operating in Eliot. Each one and two room school served grades one through eight. The one room District Six school building was built in 1810 and was the primary school for the southern end of Eliot between Spinney Creek and the Piscataqua River. By the mid 1920’s a movement to consolidate all individual districts into a central school was taking place. This and declining enrollment prompted the closing of the school in 1928. The building was converted into a private home in 1930.
