Description
Studio portrait of Charles Longfellow wearing formal Japanese attire consisting of a haori [jacket] with five "mon" (family crests - possibly incorporating his initials CAL), a silk kimono and hakama [divided skirt], black tabi and zori [straw sandals]. In his right hand is a folding fan. At his left side is a samurai sword.
The eldest child of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Charles lived in Japan for almost two years, 1871-1873.
