Description
Ernest Longfellow remarks in his autobiography that Henry Longfellow and his family thought this the best portrait ever done of him. Ernest himself was not very pleased with the results and thought the portrait he painted on a commission after studying with Thomas Couture was better. The painting was placed in Longfellow's study after his death in 1882.
