Contributed by NPS, Longfellow House-Washington's Headquarters National Historic Site

Description

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow is sitting on a chair and is turned partially to his left. He sits next to a small shaggy dog that is lying on a stool or couch. Drapery is visible in the right background.
Inscription: "H.W. Longfellow at [sic] his dog "Trap."" Photographers stamp includes "Warren, / Post Office Block, / Cambridgeport."
Notes: C1864-C1865 as it is closely associated with photograph with this date. Trap, a terrier, belonged originally to Charles Appleton Longfellow but became a family favorite in the 1860s.
Associated Materials: Probably taken in same photograph session as 3007-1-2-1-21 because of same photographer, props, and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow outfit.
