Description
This is a memento mori of Edna Small who died at the age of three in 1888. It was not uncommon for children in the nineteenth century to die before any photographs were taken of them. Many morticians also provided photographic services so a family could have a last rememberance of the loved one. The photographic genre includes pictures of dead children posed lying in bed or sitting in a chair with a favorite toy.
