Description
Lisbon Falls American Legion Championship Junior baseball team of 1929.
The players include, front row, from left, Francis Bichrest, shortstop; George F. Batchelder, left field; Michael Yecho, pitcher; Andrew Elcik, catcher and Captain; George Davala, right field (sub); and Joseph Sherbak, shortstop (sub).
In the back row, from left, are Bernard Wiles, manager; Richard Reynolds, third base; Walter Yanec, center field; Joe Davala, John Galgovitch, first base; Howard Atwood, right field (sub); Randall Coombs, second base; and Herbert Bowman, coach.
The team was primarily sponsored by Nelson-Conley American Legion Post #66, Lisbon Falls.
The team played in a league of teams sponsored by other American Legion Posts. They participated in tournaments in Laconia, N.H. and Washington D.C. The 1929 Lisbon Falls American Legion Juniors Baseball Team team won the State of Maine Title, the New England Title, and reached the championship game in the Eastern United States Playoffs.
