Description
In 1936, the Androscoggin River experienced record flood levels that destroyed the iron bridge between Durham and Lisbon falls and severly damaged many of the mills along the river. This was the second largest flood to be recorded in the history of Lisbon - the largest being the flood of 1814 when the surging Androscoggin destroyed a total of 21 sawmills.
This photo depicts a small building on the Worumbo campus being submerged by the floodwaters. This building was used by mill security watchmen.
