Thread tester, Lisbon Falls, ca. 1865

Description

This thread tester was used at the Farnsworth textile mill, located on the Sabbatus River in Lisbon Center. The device was used to test the strength of skeins of yarn that were later woven into textiles.

This tester was salvaged from the now defunct mill, and is missing a trundle.

The Farnsworth Mill was in operation for a century, opening in 1864 and closing in 1964.
