Description
Mr. Jenness is shown here with his wife Lizzie and sons Delbert and Parker. Delbert is sitting beside his father in the front seat.
Their automobile was one of the first in Springvale. Jenness, a native of Steep Falls, had a general store there, opposite the railroad station, for 14 years before moving to Springvale in 1892.
He was also an undertaker. Persons arriving by train in Steep Falls were often startled to see a small store with two large signs, one reading "cool sodas" and the other "coffins and caskets."
His store in Springvale, called Jenness Department Store, was located opposite the Bradford Block on Main Street and was one of the few Springvale stores to escape the 1905 fire.
