Description
Swami Vivekananda was a disciple of Sri Ramakrishna. His mounting compassion for India's people drove him to seek their material help from the West. Accepting an opportunity to represent Hinduism at Chicago's Parliament of Religions in 1893, Vivekananda won instant celebrity in America and a ready forum for his spiritual teaching. In 1894 Swami Vivekananda visited Green Acre in Eliot, Maine at the invitation of Sarah Jane Farmer. The Green Acre Hotel (now Green Acre Baha'i School) hosted speakers on philosophy and religion from all over the world during the summer months.
