Description
Samuel Freeman of Portland (1743-1831) wore these knee buckles on his breeches and also dressed in a waistcoat and shoes with broad silver buckles, even after the outfit was no longer in fashion.
Freeman was an author, businessman, and political figure in Portland who helped the city become prosperous.
