Description
"jillpoke" is a term that has various meanings depending on the occupation under discussion. In relation to this artifact, a jillpoke is a device that is attached to the end of a heavy work sled by the ring and the other end left to drag on the ground behind the sled. Fully loaded with logs or other heavy loads, a sled being pulled up hill could pull the horses back down hill. A jillpoke behind the sled, however, digs into the ice and snow anytime the sled starts to slip back down hill so the horses can rest a bit before continuing up the hill.
