Description

This house (formerly 66 Main Street) was built for Charles A. "Charlie" Witham by his parents, Horace and Cynthia Witham, at the time of Charlie's marriage in 1882.

The land was part of the farm purchased in 1817 by Charlie's grandfather, Joseph Witham. Charlie never had any children and when he died in 1936, the house passed to his niece Pearl (Eastman) Brunelle. She sold it in 1939 to her brother and sister-in-law, Harland and Bernice Eastman.

The house has been owned since 1950 by Harland Eastman who still owned it in 2005. Harland is the grandson of Charlie's sister, Sadie (Witham) Eastman. At one time the house was noted for its flower gardens, a portion of which can be seen in this photograph.

Harland Eastman became a U.S. diplomat and later a well-known local historian and published a popluar series of local photographs.
