Deering Factory, Portland, ca. 1870

Description

The Deering factory was built by J. Winslow Jones in 1870 to process "Winslow's World Renowned Green Corn." It was located on the bank of the Presumscot River. It was reputedly "the largest canning factory in the world" when it was built. It burned in 1875.
