Description
This is a portrait of artist and teacher Benjamin Tupper Newman (1858-1940).
Newman was born in Bath to George Evans Newman and Mary Augusta White.
He attended the Boston Museum of Art school and went on to the National Academy of Art in New York City in 1882.
He and his wife, Caroline, lived on River Street in Fryeburg. Newman trained all over the world from 1885-1903 and painted and taught in Fryeburg for many years.
