Description
Dr. George Cary was born in Houlton in 1837 and died in 1899. His parents were Shepard and Susanna (Whittaker) Cary. His brothers were Theodore, Aroostook Times Publisher, and Dr. Jefferson Cary, who bequeathed funds for Cary Medical Center in Caribou.
George graduated from Houlton Academy, Bowdoin College, and Columbia University.
George Cary served as a Lieutenant and Captain in First Maine Cavalry and he also served in the Maine Senate.
His will provided for the establishment of the Cary Library in Houlton.
