Description
On May 10, 1989 a fire started in Mouse Room 4 at Morrell Park at Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor.
The building was undergoing renovations. Within minutes of the start of the fire, the Laboratory's fire brigade and the Bar Harbor Fire Department were on the scene. Then within minutes of arriving at the fire, Chief Butch Higgins of the Bar Harbor Fire Department issued a call for help from other island and county fire departments.
Over 100 fire fighters from 15 companies and a total of 16 trucks responded. About 400,000 mice were lost in the fire.
