Description
This model of the Portland Observatory has the following note on the bottom: "Made by [ ] Wescott Jr. Finished 1906. Made out of Shingles from the old Observatory. The shingles was 98 years old."
The Portland Observatory, built on Munjoy Hill in 1807, was created to observe and "signalize" ships to speed loading and unloading.
