Contributed by Mt. Desert Island Hospital
Description
In 1898, a 46-by-84-foot Colonial-style Hospital was completed in Bar Harbor. Capacity was limited to 10 beds, five in private rooms: “All that is possible has been done to make the building clean, comfortable, cheerful and convenient.” (Bar Harbor Record article 1898). The Mount Desert Island Hospital, as it was named in 1931, was expanded over the years to add additional rooms, departments, and special services.
