Description

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882), surrounded by books and manuscripts, sits in his study at his home at 105 Brattle Street, Cambridge, Mass., about 1875.

Longfellow lived in this house from 1836, when he was a professor at Harvard University, to his death in 1882.

Built in 1759, the house was used by Gen. George Washington as his headquarters during the early years of the Revolutionary War; this room was then Washington's dining room and staff meeting room.
