Description
Built circa 1810, this house at 10 Water Street in Brunswick was the home of several generations of the Stone family.
Captain Daniel Stone purchased the property in 1806 and built the house.
His daughter, Narcissa Stone (1801-1877), inherited the house upon her father's death. Like her father, she was a prominent member of the Brunswick community and a respected business woman.
A contemporary of Narcissa, John Furbish, wrote in 1877, "Miss Narcissa Stone, aged 76...passed away... (November 18)... for a longtime a prominent person...cousin of late Col. A.J. Stone and daughter of Capt. Daniel Stone. Considerable landed estate was inherited from her father, which she held on to tenaciously, and considerably improved... Her residence was near where the settler... built his dwelling, and has long been called "Narcissa's Hill" leading to the "Landing.""
