Description
Col. George Shepley, commander of the 12th Maine Regiment, wrote to Horatio Jose of Portland from New Orleans, where the 12th Maine was stationed, asking him to handle a financial matter relating to a sugar deal.
Shepley assured Jose the business was not public or official and asked him to keep it confidential.
