Contributed by an individual through Friends of Wood Island Lighthouse
Description
The dwelling house at Wood Island Light Station was rebuilt in 1906. The new roof line is referred to as a Dutch Colonial style. Today, the dwelling house looks like the building in this picture with the exception of the porch. It used to be open with a roof and four columns. At some point it was closed in and remains closed to this day. The Friends of Wood Island Lighthouse, with the approval of the Maine Historic Preservation Commission, plans on restoring the building to the Dutch Colonial style with an open porch. The Lighthouse is currently on the National Historic Register. There are very few photographs of the Lighthouse in this era - most of what we know is from postcards.
