Description
Stephen Longfellow IV (1776-1849), a Portland lawyer, had his miniature painted about 1801, when he was betrothed to Elizabeth Wadsworth (1779-1802). After her death, he married her sister, Zilpah Wadsworth. Among his children was Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, the noted poet.
The miniature is attributed to John Roberts.
