Description
A Maine Forest Service White Pine Blister Rust work crew in the field in 1919.
Blister rust is a fungus that causes blisters that grow to large cankers on white pines and weaken the trees. Eventually, needles turn rust color.
The disease spreads through ribes -- gooseberries or gooseberries -- rather than from tree to tree.
