Description
The state operated a State Forest Nursery in Greenbush from 1956 to 1988 to grow seedlings for reforestation.
The nursery supplied owners of small wood lots with low-cost seedlings to replant land stripped of timber.
The Legislature authorized the nursery in 1913 and it was established first at the University of Maine at Orono and used for education and research before moving to Greenbush.
