Description
The Mount Desert Reading Room was designed by William Randolph Emerson and was incorporated in 1881. The Reading Room was known as the center of social activities during the summer prior to WWI. After the War membership fell off dramatically. About 1921 it was bought by the Maine Central Railroad and was renamed the Shore Club. Today it is known as the Bar Harbor Inn.
