Capt. John G. Dillingham to his wife, 1865

Contributed by Freeport Historical Society

Description

Capt. John G. Dillingham was aboard the bark Norwegian in Baltimore, Maryland, when he wrote this letter to his wife, Margaret, in Freeport.

He writes about friends he has not seen since before the Civil War and about what has happened to them.

There are poignant comments about their son John Monroe Dillingham and the barrel of food that a shipping broker in Baltimore sent to him in prison. There is also comment about local Freeport news.
