Description
Navy seaman John M. Dillingham of Freeport, a prisoner of war, writes to his mother that he and his friend John Angier Hyde are well one month after capture.
They have been moved from Charleston, South Carolina, to Columbia, S.C.
He asks his mother to send $5 in Greenbacks, tells her how to send it, and asks her to enclose the Confederate stamp he has enclosed for use when the return letter reaches the Confederate States of America.
