Description

Capt. Woodbury Purington of East Harpswell writes from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to tell of the capture by the Confederates of John M. Dillingham (1844-1864) and his close Freeport friend, John Angier Hyde (1843-).

Purinton describes how the capture occurred during an attack on Fort Sumter and asks Capt. Dillingham to notify Hyde's father.

He also suggests writing to the captain of the U.S. sloop of war Housatonic for details.
