Description
Naval seaman John Monroe Dillingham aboard the U.S. sloop of war Housatonic off Charleston, South Carolina, writes about Christmas aboard his vessel.
Having to make himself a shirt, he develops admiration for seamstresses. He also mentions mittens and sleigh rides, that no ships were attempting to run the blockade, and masthead lookout duty.
